Silksworth Bowls Club, past and present
Silksworth Bowls Club has a rich history in the Sunderland sporting scene, having developed many international bowlers over the decades. Coming soon is a page where you will be able to read more about the club's past. Today, the club plays competitively in Sunderland and District competitions, as well as its members competing year-on-year for regional, representative and national honours.
More importantly, though, the club is a real hub in the Silksworth community. The social aspect of bowls is a big part of the game, and our members are a friendly and welcoming bunch! Whether you're a total beginner, looking to find an enjoyable game to keep you fit and active, or an existing (or past) player seeking a new challenge, you will be welcomed at Silksworth.
Our club ethos is simple:

Friendly
Our members are a friendly group who welcome all existing and prospective prospective. We have an active social scene, with plenty of informal and formal events on offer.

Inclusive
We have members of all ages and varying experience in the game – from complete novices to full internationals. Whatever your level, you can be sure you will enjoy the game at Silksworth.

Sporting
Bowls is a fantastic sport for all ages, fitness levels and abilities, and all our members play the game in the right way, mixing with opposition players and enjoying the social aspect on the green.
Get involved
We cater for all abilities and ages, and all tastes – whether you’re looking for a social activity or a competitive game, one night or more a week. If you want to come and have a go, our members will be more than happy to show you the basics.
Below you can find some information about what’s on around the green during the summer. We also have equipment and the green available to hire for kids’ parties with a difference, and for corporate team-building days. We’ve already welcomed a number of groups and teams to give the game a try, with a good mix of coaching, fun and a bit of healthy competition!

When's the green open?
The outdoor season runs from April to September. The green is open every weekday from 12 noon to roughly 2pm for practice and informal coaching, and we have teams playing in leagues or competitions most nights during the week.
Will I get a game in a team?
Of course – if that’s what you’re looking for! Those who want to play competitively have ample opportunity. We play in a number of Sunderland and District competitions during the week, and we ensure that everyone who wants to play gets a chance to do so, irrespective of experience.
How much does it cost to play?
We’re very happy to offer a few trial sessions at the times mentioned above, before you commit to playing or joining as a member. If you decide to go ahead at that point, there are various membership and green fee options – click here for more!
